Cannabis, known as marijuana in its herbal form, is a product of the Cannabis plant, intended for use as a psychoactive drug or for medicinal purposes. The concentrated form of the drug is known as hashish.
The major psychoative chemical compound in cannabis is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). The effects of THC vary due to factors such as the potency, dose, chemical composition and method of consumption. Cannabis used medically has several beneficial effects, including improving nausea and vomiting and stimulating hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS patients, as well as a general pain reliever.
