Criminal Defense

The focus of our criminal defense practice is on the trial court defense of serious cases, felonies and significant misdemeanors.

HOMICIDE. Richard Rosen has been defending people charged with homicide since 1977, including death penalty, insanity defense, crimes of passion and vehicular manslaughter. He has been an instructor for California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, Trial Advocacy Program, teaching other laywers trial techniques for homicide cases in 1995, 1997 and 1999. He has defended some of the most high profile murder cases in Monterey County.

DRUG CASES. As a member of the Legal Committee of NORML (National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Law) and California NORML, Mr. Rosen has long fought against oppressive drug laws in both state and federal courts. He has taught classes to other attorneys on the use of expert witnesses for the defense, marijuana cultivation search warrants, and destruction of evidence. He has considerable experience with Asset Forfeiture and drug labs. He encourages clients who have drug abuse problems to get profession treatment.

SEX CASES. In many ways, sex cases are the most difficult for all involved. Mr. Rosen has decades of experience defending cases involving both adults and children. As a Deputy Public Defender he worked in the Crimes against Women Division. Recently, Mr. Rosen has defended internet sting sex cases.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. These cases need a combination of toughness and finesse. The combination of specially assigned prosecutors, judges in special "DV" (Domestic Violence) courts, special "DV" probation officers and special rules of evidence has made it more difficult to get a fair trial. However, we offer the most aggressive defense possible.
