Richard Rosen is a trial lawyer specializing in criminal defense. He is licensed to practice law in California since 1974 (State Bar number 62564).
Mr.Rosen is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley, A.B. 1969 and Loyola Law School, J.D. 1974. He worked as Deputy Public Defender in Riverside County from 1975-1977, doing trial court criminal defense in misdemeanors, felonies and juvenile petitions. He was a Deputy Public Defender in Monterey County from 1977-1982, doing trial court criminal defense in felonies and misdemeanors. In 1982, he opened a private practice on the Monterey Peninsula, emphasizing criminal defense. He has been in private practice ever since, moving his office to Salinas in 1999.
Mr. Rosen has tried and won many high profile cases. He has done over 200 jury trials in criminal cases. He has defended midwives accross the state and has been a consultant to the California Association of Midwives. His clients range from Hells Angels to police officers.
Mr. Rosen has been a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law for over 25 years. In 1985, Mr. Rosen was first certified as a Criminal Law Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization
He has been re-certified as a Criminal Law Specialist in 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010. California attorneys certified as specialists must pass a written examination in their speciality field, demonstrate a high level of experience in the specialty field, fulfill ongoing education requirements and be favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with their work. "Specialization is more important in criminal law than any other field," according to Mr. Rosen, "because there is so much at stake--the client's liberty."

- Mr. Rosen is a Member of the NORML Legal Committe, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, and the California Public Defenders Association.
- At the State Bar Annual Meeting in September 2005, Mr. Rosen was honored for being a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law for 20 years.
- Mr. Rosen was voted one of the Best Lawyers in America, in both 2010 and 2011, based on peer-review.
- Mr. Rosen is a Certified Arbitrator by the Monterey County Bar Association.
- In 2006, Mr. Rosen was President of the Monterey County Bar Association.
- Mr. Rosen has been a key speaker at numerous times, including for California NORML, the California Public Defenders Association, and the Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of California's Education Symposium.
- Mr. Rosen has been an instructor for California Attorneys for Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Workshop in 1995, 1997 and 1999, where he taught other lawyers trial techniques for homicide cases.
